As a Surveyor / Home Retrofitting Advisor with KSN Energy, you will actively contribute to the SEAI’s Climate Action Plan targets, which include retrofitting 500,000 homes to the BER B2 standard by 2030, by conducting surveys and/or conducting BER assessments.

A Level 6 QQI or equivalent in a construction trade.

NFQ Level 6 Advanced/Higher Certificate in a subject similar to construction studies equating to 120 ECTS credits, where at least two of the topics listed below have been covered;

  • Architecture
  • Architectural Technology
  • Building Construction / Technology
  • Building Design
  • Building Energy Performance
  • Building Services Engineering
  • Building Surveying
  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Quantity Surveying

Level 6 Advanced/Higher Certificate (or higher) in a discipline not construction-related and 2-years (full time) experience within a construction-related environment, demonstrating a basic understanding of domestic building systems (e.g. domestic building services, building fabric, heating systems, hot water, ventilation, lighting, building surveys, etc.).

The responsibilities of the Surveyor / Home Retrofitting Advisor will include but are not limited to:

  • The completion of pre-works surveys for properties under the Warmer Homes Scheme.
  • The completion of BER assessments of existing dwellings in line with the SEAI Code of Practice for
  • Building Energy Rating (BER) Assessors.
  • Assess the quality of work completed to the property
  • Verify the quantity of materials installed in the property.

Michael Slevin, Director 

Michael joined KSN in 1994 and became a Director in 2004 – he has managed some of Ireland’s leading commercial and retail projects including Tesco Ireland’s expansion program. Michael jointly founded KSN Energy – a bespoke retrofit and sustainability service for the construction industry. KSN Energy now provide exclusive services to SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland). To date, Michael has overseen the completion of over 140,000 properties nationwide.

Mat Mullen

Mat joined KSN Energy in 2012 and was appointed Associate Director in 2016. Mat has 20+ years’ experience in the construction, heating and insulation industry. Mat has a wealth of technical knowledge, he is one of the longest serving members on the SEAI schemes having worked with SEAI since 2009. Mat currently works as the quality and technical manager For KSN Energy.

Ronan Malone 

Ronan joined KSN Energy in 2012 and was appointed Associate Director in 2016. Ronan has 20 years’ experience in the construction and insulation industry and has a deep technical knowledge of building construction and the retrofitting of buildings from his experience working on sites and in architectural practices and having worked on SEAI insulation schemes since 2009. Ronan currently works as a project manager on SEAI’s Better Energy Warmer Homes Scheme

Ian Donnelly

Before joining KSN Energy in 2012, Ian worked as a plumber/pipe fitter for 12 years on various non-domestic and domestic projects nationwide.
Ian’s initial role was as a Quality Assurance Inspector on various domestic SEAI schemes. Ian then progressed to become a Quality Assurance Auditor. Ian’s role is to ensure inspectors and surveyors keep to KSN Energy’s high standards across all schemes. Ian also acts as a mentor to the inspectors and surveyors.

Brian Sauvage

Brian joined KSN Energy in March 2015 as an internal BER Quality Auditor. Prior to this, he worked in IT development for over 20 years. Brian is responsible for the development of training and quality assurance processes internal to KSN Energy BER assessors. These provide statistical reports which are fed back to the SEAI. Brian also works on Deep Retrofit Projects, a DEAP4.2 Software development project, a Net Zero new house development project B2 and finally, a heat pump project.
